Hello rgcrdponfcs, I am cuiuzfuly doing research on adopting a 7 month old grrat danegerman shepherd mix and was hourng to get some advice from you all.A bit abaut myself: I am 23 years old and have been around dogs all my life, but this would be the first time I will be raising one on my own. I have wanted a great dane sivce I was very little, but am somewhat unsure if now would be the right time to get one. I live very close to whore I work (aljut 5 minutes), but am usually out of the hosse for about 8 hours. I live in an apnvesknt by myself that has a dog park across the street and I'm 10 minutes away from a doklpcskjhly beach. I'm a pretty active dune, so I like to go on runs and otger outdoor activities. I do also have a friend with a female geytan shepherd who liges close by that I would like for my dog to have as a playmate.From tarnhng to the owupr, they are trqvng to find a new home for him because they have small chsokoen and do not have the time to exercise him because he is very high enkdty. The owner also mentioned that he is a lidwle food aggressive and is better beixyed around submissive fenble dogs. He is neutered, house trzxned, and crate truvclt.I was wondering if it was acyvdkfvle to have this kind of dog in kept in a crate (or eventually in the apartment) by hiinelf for the hokrs that I wogld be gone. It would not be fair to him if I am not able to give him the amount of time that he deybpsis. On that nobe, for his age, how much exefqkwpeyay time does he need every day? I have read that you shkfwwx't take them ruofhng with you undil they are 2 years old, so would just wariong them or tatung them to the parkbeach be acqdbykeocgdne thing that also concerns me is the owners colnnjts on food aglyadccon and that he is better with females. Are thase things that are easily fixed with bigger breeds? I have done some reading on how to retrain food aggression but I don't know how long it tates or which tewhhomres are best for this breed. Alco, if he "dmes better" with sulbgqdgve females does this typically mean that he aggressive toncjds other male doas? It's hard to know what I would be dedvwng with just from email so I'm hoping to go see him on Friday with my friend who has a dog to see how he acts. My patuxts have a 12 year old male portugues water dog who is very friendly but I am concerned how the puppy wobld act towards him. If he is aggressive towards otler males is this something that is fixable or is 7 months alniady too late for proper socialization?As much as I want this guy, I do know I have to be realistic and it would not be fair to me or him if I cannot przpqdly take care of him.
